Trotz ihrer oft romantisierenden, po- etisierenden Interpretation herrschen hier Kraft und Kompaktheit. Diese betonen das Eigenweltliche der ästhetischen Erfindung, in der alle traditionellen assoziierten Funktionen ihren Sinn verloren haben und auf die höhere Ebene der autonomen Zeichen- und Objekthaf- tigkeit ihrer selbst hinweisen. Dort erst ergibt sich der Sinn, dem man zunächst nicht nachzu- spüren vermochte. Lurra Oxido 42 Chillida’s forms strive for autonomy; they are un- seen and thus unheard-of. The pure poetry of the form, despite its often romanticizing, poeticizing interpretation, rules over force and compactness. These stress the personal-worldliness of the aes- thetic fabrication, in which all traditionally as- sociated functions have lost their meaning and testify to the higher level of the self’s autono- mous signage and objecthood. There the meaning always shows up which one at first thinks cannot be traced. Gravitación Das Papierobjekt balanciert mit realen fili- granen Momenten und optischer Schwere. Wiederholungen von Formelementen, hier der halbkreisförmige Ausschnitt, bringen eine fast spielerische Bewegung in das Werk. Obwohl die Menge und Fläche des weißen Papiers das des schwarzen um das etwa Vierfache übersteigt, dominiert das kompakte Schwarz, das formbe- stimmend und damit bildbestimmend ist. Eine leichte Raumschichtung fächert die Kompakt- heit auf, der so die Schwere genommen wird. Gravitación The paper object balances real filigree moments with visual weight. The repetition of formal ele- ments, here the semicircular cropped detail, stand for an almost playful movement in the work. Al- though the mass and plane of the white outweigh that of the black by about fourfold, the compact black dominates; it defines both the form and the image itself.
