For her work she has received several art prizes, scholarships and several teaching positions in China. Born in Wendrof, Mecklenburg. From 1949 to 1953 he studies at the Art Academies of Wismar and Ber- lin-Weissensee. From 1956 Uecker produces his first nail picture and comes in contact with Group ZERO (from 1961 a member), the artists Heinz Mack and Otto Piene, who stand for a new beginning for art after World War II and contrary to the German Informel. He becomes occupied with light media, re- searches optical phenomena, structural series and vibrational fields that actively incorporate the viewer. High awards and important exhbitions are the result such as, for instance, several documentas in Kassel, the Venice Biennale and the Stedelijk Museum in Am- sterdam. Up to 1995 Uecker teaches as a profes- sor at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. A highpoint in Uecker’s artistic work is the 2000 prayer room he designed for the Reichstag in Berlin.
