197 Born in Finkenwerder near Hamburg. Besides his training as a grade school teacher, he attends the Ap- plied Arts School in Hamburg-Lerchenfeld. In 1924 he continues his art education at the Gerda Koppel art school. His early work is influenced by Expressionism. In 1920 Bargheer is a member of the Hamburg Secession. After a 1935 visit to Paul Klee in Bern his paintings become more abstract and more colorful. In 1939 he moves to the Italian island of Ischia. He returns to Germany in 1950 and from 1957 is a guest teacher at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg. In 1963 he is appointed to a professorship at the Hoch- schule für Bildende Künste in Berlin. Bargheer partici- pates in the 1955 and 1959 documentas in Kassel. Eduard Bargheer dies on July 1, 1979 in Hamburg. Ruth Baumgarte (1923-2013) wird 1923 als Tochter des UFA-Chefs und Mehrheits- eigners der Tobis Filmproduktionsgesellschaften Kurt Rupli und der Schauspielerin Margarete Kellner-Con- rady in Coburg geboren und wächst in Berlin auf. Ihre erste künstlerische Ausbildung erhält sie bei Emmy Stalmann an der Kunstschule des Westens, Berlin. Von 1940 bis 1944 studiert sie an der Hochschule für bildende Künste Berlin bei den Professoren Ulrich, Michel, Tank, Franke und Wehlte. Während des Studi- ums ist sie Meisterschülerin und ständige Mitarbeite- rin des Kaskeline-Zeichentrickfilm-Ateliers. Kurz nach Kriegsende wird sie Pressezeichnerin an der ersten deutsch-russischen Tageszeitung. Aus familiären Gründen siedelt sie 1946 nach Bielefeld um, wo sie als Malerin und Buchillustratorin bekannt wird; Ruth Baumgarte arbeitet für eine Vielzahl renommier- ter deutscher Verlage. Seit Ende der 1940er-Jahre erschließt sie sich zunehmend erfolgreich mit freier Kunst die Kunstszene und zeigt ihre Werke interna- tional. Zahlreiche Reisen von Persien bis Afrika inspi- rieren die Künstlerin. Vor allem für ihren Afrika-Zyklus reist Ruth Baumgarte erstmals in den 1950er-Jah- ren und seit den frühen 1980er-Jahren häufig auf den afrikanischen Kontinent. Ruth Baumgartes Afrika-Zy- klus wird international in Museen, Kunstvereinen, Ga- lerien und auf Kunstmessen erfolgreich ausgestellt. 2012 gründet sie die Kunststiftung Ruth Baumgarte. Am 7. Februar 2013 stirbt Ruth Baumgarte in Biele- feld. From the end of the 1940s she increasingly and successfully explores the art scene with her fine art pieces and shows her works inter- nationally. Many trips to Persia and Africa inspire her as an artist. Above all for her Africa cycle Ruth Baum- garte travels for the first time in the 1950s and often up to the early 1980s to the African continent. Ruth Baumgarte’s Africa cycle does well at international exhibitions in museums, art societies, galleries and at art fairs. In 2012 she founds the Ruth Baumgarte Art Foundation. On 7 February 2013 Ruth Baumgarte dies in Bielefeld. Lore Bert (*1936) wird 1936 in Gießen geboren und wächst in Darm- stadt auf. Internationales Renommee erlangt Bert vor allem im Bereich der Papierkunst. Sie studiert Male- rei an der Werkkunstschule in Darmstadt und an der Hochschule für bildende Künste in Berlin. Ab 1982 entstehen Collagen, Bildobjekte, transparente Falt- bilder und Skulpturen mit fernöstlichen Papieren und Papyrus. Ab 1984 stellt sie weltweit Installationen, Papierräume und Environments vor. Bert entwirft die- se ab 1994 mit Neonschrift und Neonröhren bis hin zu ganzen Lichträumen, die ihre enge Anbindung an die Lichtkunst dokumentieren. Ihre Arbeiten befinden sich in zahlreichen Museen und öffentlichen Samm- lungen und werden international ausgestellt. Doku- mentiert wird ihr Werk in zahlreichen Monografien und Katalogen.
