When the light softly hits the architecture over the bay of Palma in April, when the sea, sky, and horizon merge in Mediterranean clarity, one of those special weeks begins in which art and lifestyle form a natural connection.

We are delighted to announce our participation in Art Cologne Palma de Mallorca. From April 9 to 12, 2026, we will be presenting a carefully curated selection of important international contemporary artists at our booth E0 G141 at the Palma Convention Centre.

At Art Cologne Palma de Mallorca 2026, the Samuelis Baumgarte Gallery will present a carefully curated selection of international modern and contemporary works, with a special focus on Spanish perspectives.

At the heart of the presentation, the Mediterranean is not treated as a motif, but rather as a space of experience and a condition of perception: as a structuring force that shapes light, volume, and spatial relationships, and increasingly dissolves the classical distinction between figure and setting. In this sense, a multi-layered dialogue unfolds between sculpture and painting, between physicality and spatial openness, between condensation and dissolution.

As a pioneer of modernism and co-founder of Cubism, Pablo Picasso (€36,000) opens up a perspective on the dissolution of traditional spatial arrangements, a trend that finds its continuation in the gestural pictorial spaces of Hans Hartung, a pioneer of postwar European abstraction (€250,000). This art-historical lineage expands in the light-infused color compositions of Sam Francis (€120,000) as well as in the multi-layered visual approach of Gerhard Richter (€950,000), whose work mediates between abstraction and photographic image-making.

The presentation achieves a particular intensity in the sculptural works: Tony Cragg’s organic, dynamic formal processes (€320,000) enter into a nuanced dialogue with Stephan Balkenhol’s minimalist figuration (€59,000). At the center of the Mediterranean perspective is the Mallorcan sculptor Amador, whose works emerge from the interplay of material, light, and organic form, making the atmospheric dimension of the space immediately tangible. He is joined by the Madrid-based constructive sculptor David Magán, whose transparent, precisely structured works elevate light itself to a form-giving element and reveal space as an open, permeable order. 

The present unfolds further within a broader perspective: in the expansive color interventions of Katharina Grosse (€36,000), in the expressive figuration of Christine Jackob-Marks, in the material-focused and often ceramic-based works of Antje Tesche-Mentzen, and in the conceptually structured spatial installations of Lore Bert. This constellation is complemented by Tom Wesselmann (€39,000) and Niki de Saint Phalle (€70,500), whose distinctive approaches expand the relationship between figure, color, and space in a unique way. 

The exhibition places a special focus on Spanish and Mallorcan artists such as Amador and David Magán, as well as on expanding the concept of the image: painting, sculpture, and objects engage in an open dialogue. Amador’s epoxy resin works and David Magán’s light-based and transparent structures open up new perspectives on space and surface.

The up-and-coming object artist Emil Adam engages in an open dialogue as a contemporary voice at the intersection of form, materiality, and space.

In this curatorial framework, the Mediterranean is consistently experienced as a space of perception, reduction, and intensity—not as a representation, but as a structuring force that fundamentally redefines the relationship between light, space, and form.
