About the exhibition

Due to the great success of the exhibition, we would like to introduce you to eight new works by Heinz Mack, which can be seen until February 19, 2022 in the gallery. We look forward to your visit and will of course be happy to advise you.

The Samuelis Baumgarte Galerie, Bielefeld, presents from October 31, 2021 to January 30, 2022 on the occasion of the 90th birthday of the famous ZERO artist Heinz Mack the extensive retrospective "Mack - The Language of Colors".

The vernissage of the exhibition for Heinz Mack's 90th birthday will take place on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at 11 a.m. with an introduction by Professor Robert Fleck, Düsseldorf Art Academy. Registration for the vernissage is required. A catalog will be published to accompany the exhibition.

For decades, our gallery has been working closely with the co-founder of the internationally famous ZERO group, Heinz Mack. With his multifaceted oeuvre, the artist decisively shaped the art history of the post-war period. Discover a compilation of the artist's latest works in the upcoming exhibition. On display are canvas and paper works as well as sculptures.

Heinz Mack

The important ZERO artist Heinz Mack (born 1931) attended the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf from 1950 to 1953. In 1957 the artist founded the world-famous ZERO group together with Otto Piene, which Günther Uecker later joined. After participating in the documenta and the Venice Biennale, he received a professorship in Osaka, Japan, and became a member of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin. Heinz Mack has been awarded important prizes, including the Great Federal Cross of Merit with a Star. His work is represented in over 150 of the most important museum collections worldwide. In addition, Heinz Mack's works were shown in the major retrospectives on his 80th birthday in the Bundeskunsthalle, Bonn, and on his 90th birthday in the Düsseldorf Kunstpalast.

The Samuelis Baumgarte Galerie, Bielefeld, presents from October 31, 2021 on the occasion of the 90th birthday of the famous ZERO artist Heinz Mack the extensive retrospective "Mack - The Language of Colors". The exhibition will open on Saturday, October 30th from 7:00 p.m. with an exclusive charity dinner for the benefit of the German Stroke Foundation under the patronage and presence of Liz and Dr. Brigitte Mohn. The TV-presenter Wolfram Kons will host the evening. Hannelore Hoger will also give a reading in the presence of the foundation ambassadors Verona Pooth, Guido Maria Kretschmer and Alexander Baumgarte.
