For Art Karlsruhe 2024 from February 21 to 25, we present an insight into our solo exhibition of the important ZERO artist Heinz Mack (93). An extensive exhibition of the artist's work is also currently on show at the ZKM Karlsruhe until April 14, 2024.
Works by ZERO co-founder Otto Piene are in dialog with contemporary positions by the Italian artist Amanda Chiarucci, Janus Hochgesand and Astrid Lowack.
For more than six decades, ZERO artist Heinz Mack has had a decisive influence on the art history of the post-war period through his diverse and eventful oeuvre. The exhibition presentation includes a juxtaposition of museum works from the 1950s to the present day. Early rare works on canvas and paper, correlating sculptures, kinetic objects and selected multiples will be presented.
In Heinz Mack's works, light and shadow, color and movement are always elementary allies and reflect his central artistic theme. The exhibited works show in an exciting way how painting builds on Mack's sculptures and environments and forms correlating godparents. Rhythmic structures, optical and kinetic movements and non-objective forms are the artistic language with which Heinz Mack repeatedly explores light through his special compositions. The exhibition comprehensively shows how Mack uses a wide variety of media to realize the visual vibration of impressive radiance in a multifaceted way between painting and sculpture.
