Kunstpause - Art & Book Lounge
A place to pause
The Kunstpause Art & Book Lounge is a deliberately designed space in the Samuelis Baumgarte Gallery. It invites visitors to take a break from viewing the exhibition, to reflect on what they have seen, or to simply relax for a moment.
Over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, the lounge offers an opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday city life and discover a special place—open, cultured, and unhurried.
A curated space for tranquility and encounters
A gem within the gallery, the Kunstpause Art & Book Lounge offers space for different kinds of visits:
– quiet contemplation and concentrated reading
– conversations about art, literature, and contemporary issues
– author readings
– a conscious break with coffee or wine
The curated book selection includes art books, fiction, essays, and contemporary literature. The selection is comprehensive: it can establish connections to current exhibitions, but also opens up independent thematic and intellectual spaces.
Kunstpause Art & Book Lounge as an attitude
The Kunstpause Art & Book Lounge sees itself as a cultural space between exhibitions and the city, between viewing and reading, between encounter and retreat.
A place that allows time.
To rest. To think. To come back.
Art and literature in dialogue
The Kunstpause Art & Book Lounge is a collaboration between two independent cultural institutions with a long tradition and a clear stance.
Samuelis Baumgarte Gallery
The Samuelis Baumgarte Gallery was founded in 1975 by Ruth Baumgarte and has been run by Alexander Baumgarte as its owner for almost three decades.
Since its founding, the gallery has shaped the German art landscape with a sophisticated program. It exhibits important artists of classical modernism, postwar art, and outstanding figures in contemporary art.
The gallery stands for high curatorial quality, international networking, and a long-term, content-based gallery program.
Felix Jud – Book and Art Store
The Felix Jud book and art store has been in Hamburg since 1923 and is now managed by Robert Eberhardt. It is one of the most renowned addresses for literature, art books, philosophy, essays, and social issues in the German-speaking world.
Felix Jud is known for its carefully curated selection, intellectual openness, and commitment to cultural diversity and free discourse.
Together, the Kunstpause Art & Book Lounge creates a space where art and literature meet without being defined – open, comprehensive, and inspiring.
Parallel to the current exhibitions – open daily
The Kunstpause Art & Book Lounge is designed to run parallel to the current exhibitions at the Samuelis Baumgarte Gallery and is open daily during regular opening hours.
It is part of the gallery visit without dominating it. A place where impressions can linger and new thoughts can arise.
